IGLOO 2. The essential exposure unit for screen printing.

This product includes the exposure unit’s main body and 1 UV LED Lamp.

It’s also possible to separately buy the White LED Lamp and swap it for the UV LED Lamp if required.

The IGLOO’s shape is quite unconventional and different from other exposure units that are generally available, because the reason for creating it is also quite unconventional:
our intention was to create a unit that included just the essentials, was simple to use and requires only a minimal investment.

The IGLOO is entirely designed and manufactured by CPL Fabbrika. Made in Italy.

HOW THE IGLOO WORKS

With eco-sustainability also being at the forefront of our considerations, this device was designed to minimize the use of materials and, wherever feasible, to utilize those that are as light as possible, such as fibreglass and polyester.

In so doing, we managed to create a structure that’s flexible, yet robust:
the presser, i.e. the unit’s key component, is reliable and ensures that the film adheres perfectly to the screen.

The result is a device that delivers high quality exposures and that can be configured to suit your needs.

The IGLOO works by means of a single point light source: ideal for reproducing designs with intricate details and even halftone films.

You can configure the device as you require, just choose the light source that best suits your needs.

You can choose between:
– the Kit with White LED Lamp
– the Kit with UV LED Lamp
– just the main body with presser; in this case you can use any light source which you can buy from anywhere.
– just the White LED Lamp
– just the UV LED Lamp

Any commercially available LED lights can be used with the IGLOO
Halogen lights, because they generate heat, are not suitable.

Meticulous research into various materials and their properties enabled us to design a device that’s both lightweight and compact: it can be assembled and disassembled in a few easy steps and can either be positioned against a wall or stored in a cupboard.

Despite being lightweight, the IGLOO is both sturdy and highly dependable: the pressure, delivered via strong steel eccentric levers which are robust, reliable and easy to use, ensures perfect contact between the film and the screen.
The presser opens and closes via a single movement: no lid that needs raising and lowering.

Key features:
The IGLOO can be used to expose screens with external dimensions of up to 47×68 cm, suitable for printing A3 designs.
Using a thread count of 120, lines with a minimum thickness of 0.1 mm can be reproduced, as can 140 micron halftone screens.

Q&A

I create cyanotype prints with plants and I need the light to shine from above, as if it was the sun, rather than from below as is often the case with large industrial machinery. Can you please confirm that the IGLOO’s UV light is located at the top of the device and therefore shines downwards?
Answer to the question from John

Yes, I can confirm that the light, whether it be UV or white light, is suspended from the top and that the screen is positioned beneath it, under a glass panel that enables the film to perfectly adhere to the material.

Can I create cyanotype prints using the IGLOO 2 exposure unit?
Answer to the question from Helen

The IGLOO 2 screenprinting exposure unit is perfect for creating cyanotype prints.
In fact, the IGLOO delivers excellent results in terms of definition and can also be used to print halftone images.
Cyanotype prints need UV light, so we suggest you choose the version with a UV light source included.

What’s the difference between UV light and white light?
Answer to the question from Daniel

From a screen printing perspective, the difference between UV light and WHITE light is that all emulsions can be exposed using UV light, but this isn’t the case for white light: many light-sensitive emulsions cannot be exposed using white light.

With UV lights and emulsions that are sensitive to UV light, the print quality increases significantly.

Can this UV LED light be used to expose screens without using the Igloo exposure unit?
Answer to the question from Emauel

Yes, the 100w UV LED light can also be used without the IGLOO exposure unit.

I'm setting up my new workshop and I need to choose between either the UltraSlim LED exposure unit or a UV neon kit. What would you recommend?
Answer to the question from Denise

If the emulsions you use are sensitive to UV light, our UltraSlim LED exposure unit will not be suitable, because the light source it uses is white light.

To expose screens with UV light, our Igloo2 exposure unit is a good option, it’s configured to use UV LED light and is capable of exposing screens with external dimensions of up to 47×68 cm.
